Although grateful for her recovery, she realized the inequity of her healthcare outcome. Not everyone has access to specialized medical expertise.
As Charlotte regained her health, she joined Asher Orion Group, a company dedicated to making a positive impact on those who are advancing healthcare innovation. The company supports both AI/ML regulated device manufacturers and enabling platforms. Through this work, she saw the potential clinical AI solutions could bring to level healthcare inequity.
As the clinical AI market matured, there was growing evidence that there was little interest in bringing clinical AI solutions to rural and community hospitals and that the lack of knowledge and bandwidth to ethically and safely adopt these new technologies were the largest hurdles. She activated her husbands network again to validate the market need, the tools and services, and mechanisms to overcome these hurdles to adoption and began development to ensure that all patients benefit from the advances in clinical AI/ML solutions.
This was the origin of Asher Informatics.
The founders know what it is like to struggle with a quality of life threatening undiagnosed disease. Charlotte Kalafut became severely ill over three years, losing her mobility and enduring excruciating pain.
Despite having access to a top-notch healthcare system, she could not find any answers. Her husband, John F. Kalafut, PhD, activated his network to get second opinions, request favors, and keep up with the latest medical research. His efforts helped Charlotte's doctors to find a treatment plan for a rare disease which eventually led to her regaining her quality of life.
